Modern Life

One day 2 weeks ago while hitting the gym, I lost my cell phone. I also lost our corporate pager. A few days later, while trying disconnect their UVerse TV service, AT&T inadvertently took down my DSL. Then while hacking some PHP code, I inadvertently brought down this site.
I was left feeling totally disconnected all of sudden. Didn’t take long for me to realize how dependent I’ve grown to these things.
DSL is finally back on, the site is restored (obviously since you’re reading this), Yahoo! replaced the lost pager. The cell phone (which is fairly expensive to replace btw) is still missing.
Why do they still hand out pagers? Crackberry (or iPhone) would be SO much nicer.
BTW, what’s (4) icon before each heading on the sidebar? Fantastic 4 fan? :-b
It’s F4 and it’s temporary. i’m still messing around with different themes; despite the thousands out there and in the words of U2: “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for”.
🙂
We still haven’t re-subscribed to cable. I watch so much less TV now, that when I do switch it on, seeing all the ads and sitcom trailers with their plastic humor is weirdly jarring, because it makes me feel like I’m partially disconnected from the modern culture of TV.
I’m reading a lot more books.
My notebook recently broke; just would not turn on. It’s been over a week now and I have a wait for a few more weeks before I will get my new one. It’s been so hard – like a part of me is missing!! 🙁 I turn it on every morning even before breakfast and use it through out the day. I am using our Media Center PC to check emails now but it’s not the same as my own and I totally missed the apps that are on it … I can live without a TV but not a PC! 🙂
I don’t miss my phone or other stuffs much, but it was tough without DSL.
This is pretty sad… 😮
As you can see from my posts, I watch way too much TV. 🙂
I didn’t realize how dependent I was on our Tivo (or for that matter how much of a TV junkie I was) until it broke down a week ago. I couldn’t even record any of my shows on VHS cuz the UI was just unacceptably complicated now that I’ve gotten used to the Tivo format. I don’t think I could even remember what network my favorite shows are on so I definitely feel your pain Rex.
Now that we gave up our Uverse DVR, we don’t record anything either. But our girls are used to that, more than a few times Katelyn & Allison would ask us to pause a live TV show or ask to play a recording of Dora.
We’d had to explain to them that we no longer can do that. Blah…..
